Mangkaja Arts in conjunction with ReDot Fine Art Gallery are excited to announce the unearthing of a significant body of work on paper from the early 1990’s by important founding members of Mangkaja Arts. This exceptional group of work had previously been locked away in storage and has remained unseen outside of the community for many years. We are delighted to be able to bring these works to exhibition in 2013. The exhibition will run from the 6th of February until the 9th of March @ ReDot Fine Art Gallery in Singapore.
This beautiful and simplistic body of work comprises of three of the late founding members of Mangkaja Arts, Wankurta Peanut Ford, Yata Gypsy Yadda, and Wakartu Cory Surprise. All three of these strong Walmajarri women began painting in the late eighties through the Karrayili Adult Education Centre, and participated in the landmark exhibition “Karrayili” which was held in 1991 at Tandanya National Aboriginal Institute in South Australia
To be able to show such incredible early works after so many years is a joyous and exciting development for Mangkaja Arts and ReDot Fine Art Gallery, we hope you enjoy the exhibition and this journey back in time to the “Origins” of a very special place, community and art centre.
Please find below a selection of included works. The full show can be viewed in advance via ReDot Fine Art Gallery
