Daisy Japulja paints images of both Martuwarra (river country) and her parent's Jilji (sand hill) country. In these works Daisy relives the stories told of her mothers and fathers country, and retells those of her own river country. Daisy uses lively colours and a thick brush to cover the canvas with a confident hand. The beautiful simplicity of her desert images are matched by her bold colour pallet as she portrays important Jila (waterholes) and Jumu (soak waters) from the Great Sandy Desert. Closer to home, her cheeky sense of humour rises from the canvas through her beautiful depictions of river country, and the various animals that dwell within it.
This vibrant and energetic body of work radiates Daisy's love of country and we are thrilled to have it showing with Tunbridge Gallery.
